It is slim, can't expect a 2.5 hard drive sized DVD-drive.It will work fine with TV. I solely bought it for TV.

Also got 1 amp USB port in TV for external hard drives. No headache at all.Will update how it fares long term.Update: Two years and still working fine despite couple of drops. So had to purchase USB powered Hub to detect on my Cell Phone or tablet.Once tablet or Cell phone is detects this Device I am able to do Screen Mirroring and now my TV can play DVD's through Cell Phone or Tablet.Had to buy USB Powered Hub their is no options in this DVD to work with External Power supply (only Internal USB Powered Supply is present). Slick, Slim and very Fast. The LG Portable External DVD Writer is exactly as per the description. Easily connects with a single USB connector to any Laptop or Desktop without a hassle.

Rotates the disk very fast and hence produces a bit of humming noise that can annoy some. But I did not find it distracting at all. Easily detects and runs most of the scratched DVDs and CDs. It is lightweight and opens easily with a push of a button. The green indicator light works fine while playing the disk.
