However, Borya didn't tell Barbossa the meaning of that token, and Barbossa didn't have it in his next chronological appearance, in Pirates of the Caribbean: Legends of the Brethren Court, when he joined the crew of the Black Pearl as Jack's First Mate. We know from the films that Barbossa gave it to Ragetti for safekeeping, and that Ragetti carved that piece of wood into his wooden eye, and since Ragetti also doesn't appear in Legends of the Brethren Court, we can assume the Piece of Eight was with Ragetti the whole time. I'm not sure if that woud make Ragetti a Pirate Lord or not.

So it's possible that Barbossa learned the eye was one of the Pieces of Eight shortly before the mutiny on the Black Pearl, when Ragetti and Pintel joined Jack's crew, and proclaimed himself a Pirate Lord when he marooned Jack on Rumrunner's Isle.
